This may come as a surprise.
But KAZUKIN, too, once had an era of being serious about branded watches.
The story goes back to my first year at work.
A coworker who loved watches
First year at the company.
One of my coworkers was a watch lover.
He knew everything.
And he talked about it with such obvious joy.
Rolex talk.
Tudor talk.
Breitling talk.
After hearing it nearly every day, I found myself flipping through watch magazines too.
Completely influenced.
Simple.
Pouring in my first paycheck
Rolex is good.
Tudor is good.
Breitling is good.
They're all good.
But they're all expensive.
Among them, what was still reasonably priced and within reach back then was
the OMEGA SPEEDMASTER.
Known as the Moonwatch.
I poured my first paycheck into it.
I was completely smitten.
The black dial. Three small subdials. A tachymeter that I didn't understand but looked cool.
And above all,
the story: the watch that went to the moon on the Apollo missions.
It thrilled me.
On my wrist was the same model that went to the moon.
I was only going to the office, but I felt like an astronaut.
The perfect watch's unexpected weakness
But this seemingly perfect watch had one weakness.
The surface is plastic.
By surface, I mean the clear cover over the dial (the crystal).
A watch that goes to the moon, and it's plastic.
The reason for the plastic (resin) is apparently safety in case of breakage...
Still, for KAZUKIN on the ground, that means,
in other words,
it scratches easily.
So I was extremely careful.
Don't bump it.
Don't rub it.
Set it gently on the desk.
A life the opposite of a G-SHOCK's.
The person changes his movements to suit the watch.
That is apparently what a branded watch is like.
And then, it vanished
The Speedmaster I cherished so much.
Who would have thought that, a few years later, in the chaos of moving,
it was destined to go missing.
The KAZUKIN of that time never imagined it.
I thought, you've got to be kidding.
I opened every cardboard box.
I searched all the storage.
It didn't turn up.
After being so careful, protecting it so as not to put a single scratch on it.
Never mind a scratch, the whole thing vanished.
A watch that can go to the moon couldn't survive a move.
No, that's wrong.
It isn't the watch's fault.
It's KAZUKIN, who couldn't keep track of it.
Is it still stopped in time inside some cardboard box somewhere?
Or is it running on someone's wrist somewhere?
Where's my Speedmaster...?
