The NIXON I bought more than ten years ago had stopped. I knew the battery was dead, but it did not feel worth taking to a watch shop, so I decided to boldly replace it myself.
What I prepared
- Precision screwdriver (a small Phillips for watches)
- Replacement button cell (check the model number printed on the case back)
- Tweezers
- A soft cloth
The only special tool was the precision screwdriver; everything else was already in the house. I checked the battery model number in advance from the engraving on the case back.
What I felt actually doing it
The screws on the case back were smaller than I expected, and I was careful because applying force the wrong way could strip them. Also, if the waterproof gasket shifts, the watch loses its water resistance, so I kept checking the gasket's orientation, both when opening and closing.

Summary
The job itself took about 15 minutes, but I learned the waterproof gasket is something I will have to keep being careful about. When the watch started running again, I was happier than I expected. Next I want to try replacing the strap too.
