KAZUKIN loves his AirPods.
“Aren't you a BOSE guy?”
I can almost hear that.
It's true I like BOSE for headphones. Light. Good sound. Good design.
But when it comes to earbuds, it's AirPods.
So what's good about them?
First, the size.
And the lightness.
Plus how quickly they connect with an iPhone.
Open the case. Put them in your ears. They connect immediately.
That flow is extremely smooth.
As for sound quality, it's good enough for KAZUKIN.
Of course there are surely earbuds with even higher sound quality.
But KAZUKIN isn't the type to seriously analyze treble extension or bass depth on a train.
I'm basically satisfied with “Oh, it's playing properly again today.”
I actually own two
KAZUKIN owns two such AirPods.
Do I use them for different purposes?
One for commuting, one for home?
One for music, one for video?
No.
I temporarily lost them, bought another pair reluctantly, and they turned up later.
That's all.
A two-pair setup with zero planning.
One of them isn't a backup.
It just turned into a backup as a result.
Hearing that someone has two AirPods, it sounds a bit luxurious.
But the reality is
lose → buy → find
an extremely pathetic three-step sequence.
All I can do is laugh.
“It's gone!” comes suddenly
When I lost them, I'd been keeping the AirPods case right in my bag.
And one day I opened the bag as usual.
Not there.
I look again.
Still not there.
I check the small pocket of the bag.
I check my jacket pocket.
I check the desk at home.
Not there.
At this point, people start rechecking places they just checked.
And eventually they start searching places where it can't possibly be.
It wasn't in the fridge.
Naturally.
In the end, I couldn't find them and rebought.
Then days later, they turned up as if nothing had happened.
You were there all along.
Before the joy of reunion, what came up was
“But I already bought new ones.”
Loss prevention: hang them from the bag
KAZUKIN tends to lose things.
Taking that fact seriously, since the loss I changed to keeping the AirPods in a protective case hanging from my bag.
This turned out to be surprisingly convenient.
I can take them out right away without opening the bag.
When done, I can put them straight back in the case.
No need to search inside the bag.
Rather than improving my ability to search, I made a system where I don't need to search.
This is the Ore-shiki recurrence-prevention measure.
It looks a bit dangly, but it's better than losing them.
Location check over style.
What KAZUKIN needed wasn't a fancy case but storage I can see.
Summary
The goodness of AirPods isn't just sound quality.
Light, easy to carry, fast to connect to an iPhone.
Little hassle before use.
Just right for listening to music or watching video on a commuter train.
BOSE headphones are good too.
But in summer, the ears get hot.
In that respect, AirPods are easy to use in any season.
In the end, what matters is that a tool fits the situation where it's used.
BOSE for headphones.
AirPods for earbuds.
There's no need to unify brands.
Good things are good.
Though, however good the earbuds, if you lose them you can't hear anything.
Everyone, please be careful about losing earbuds.
AirPods are great, right?
