For KAZUKIN, Osezaki is a special place.
Before Covid, I visited every summer without fail. It was always a day trip, but that too was part of the fun. After enjoying snorkeling to the fullest at Osezaki, dinner at “Uogashi Maruten” in Numazu Port—that was KAZUKIN's standard course.
Osezaki, a summer staple
The clear blue sea of Osezaki, colorful fish, the view of Mount Fuji.
Even the Maruten kakiage bowl I ate after swimming my fill in the sea was part of KAZUKIN's summer scenery.
Stopping by Numazu Port's “Uogashi Maruten” on the way home
Do you know Maruten's signature, the kakiage bowl?
When I first saw it, I was so shocked by its sheer size that I blurted out, “...What on earth is this?!” The towering kakiage is less a bowl topping than a building.
The towering kakiage bowl
KAZUKIN, who gets heartburn easily, remembers finishing it in a desperate effort. That's how much volume and impact it had. Magnificent.
Beyond the taste, the surprise the moment it appeared before me and the sense of accomplishment after finishing made it a dish that left an intense memory of the trip.
Since Covid, summer has become distant
But since Covid, KAZUKIN hasn't been able to go to Osezaki. Days of refraining from going out and traveling continued, and the snorkeling I'd looked forward to became a distant memory before I knew it.
Even so, my feelings for Osezaki haven't changed.
“I want to swim in that sea again. And take on Maruten's kakiage bowl.”
The day I visit Osezaki again and enjoy snorkeling, then stop at Uogashi Maruten in Numazu Port on the way back and shout “...What on earth is this?!” before the giant kakiage bowl—KAZUKIN is still looking forward to that day.
