It happens every now and then when you invest. No, not “now and then.” You think “this looks cheap,” buy it, and the moment you do, the price drops. Buying HIS stock felt exactly like that.

The moment I buy, it falls

It falls right after I buy. It falls again the next day. It feels as though the market is watching me buy. “Wait, did it fall because I bought?” Of course not. But as a classic retail-investor experience, it feels very real.

HIS is a travel stock, so it is easily affected by the economy, exchange rates, inbound tourism, fuel costs and more. It is only natural that the price moves a lot in the short term. Even so, knowing the logic does not stop it from stinging.

What matters is “why did I buy it?”

What matters here, I think, is not forgetting why I bought it.

  • Did I buy it looking only at short-term price moves?
  • Did I buy it looking at recovery or growth years from now?
  • Was I attracted by the cheapness, shareholder perks, or the business itself?

If the reason still stands, there is no need to panic over a small decline. If the reason was vague, that is something to reflect on. This HIS purchase fell right after I bought too, but it was within expectations. Now it is a time for patience, and I am giving myself a pep talk.

Summary

With a stock, the answer-checking begins the moment you buy. But the real answer does not arrive the next day. Probably much later. Telling myself that, I look at the share price again today.
