Recently, my chances to touch the Ovation have plummeted.

It used to be beside the living-room sofa, so while watching TV I'd casually reach for it and play a little. That's how easily I touched it.

But beside the sofa is surprisingly in the way.

In the way when cleaning.
In the way when people walk by.
Subtly in the way when doing anything.

As a guitar, it's not bad. I actually like it.

It's just that it was in the way there.

So KAZUKIN moved the Ovation to the neighboring tatami room.

It looks good.

An Ovation in a corner of a tatami room.

It even has a certain “life with a guitar” feel.

But then a serious problem arose.

I stopped playing it at all.

A few meters is too far

It's not like I took it somewhere far away.

It's the next room.

A few steps and I can reach it.

And yet I don't play it.

I know.

Given KAZUKIN's personality, I won't move unless it's always within reach.

Even when I think

“maybe I'll play guitar,”

stand up.
Go to the next room.
Bring the guitar.

The moment that process is added,

“Maybe another time.”

That's how it goes.

How heavy can my rear end be, honestly.

Studying is exactly the same

This isn't only about guitar.

Learning is the same.

Books and textbooks also need to be placed within reach whenever possible.

Beside the desk.

Beside the computer.

Near the sofa.

Anywhere in my line of sight.

Otherwise, I basically don't read them.

The moment I neatly store a book on the shelf, its existence ends in KAZUKIN's mind.

I tidied up neatly, and at the same time tidied away my learning opportunity.

A terrifying storage technique.

Being KAZUKIN for years, I've come to understand my own ecology

When I was young, I might have thought,

“Let's make it a habit more,”

or

“Let's have stronger willpower.”

But after being KAZUKIN for so many years, I understand.

This ecology doesn't change that easily.

My quirks, or habits, or behavior patterns.

Having held myself long-term, I can more or less read my own earnings reports.

The stock called KAZUKIN has the characteristic

“reaches for whatever is at hand,”

while

“interest drops sharply a few meters away.”

Revising the earnings forecast looks difficult.

Then rearranging placement is faster than changing myself.

Instead, I started playing the Morris

Interestingly, my chances to play the Morris have increased lately.

Why?

The reason is simple.

Because I put it back in my study.

The study has the computer.

It has music.

It has books.

It has my hobby items.

Most of what KAZUKIN usually touches is packed tightly into a small area.

That is, sitting down, I can reach almost everything.

This environment is very strong for KAZUKIN.

A little computer.

A little study.

A little guitar.

I can start everything “while I'm at it.”

And for KAZUKIN, being able to do things while I'm at it apparently matters a lot.

Go into the tatami room and it basically becomes an objet

Come to think of it, what used to be in this tatami room was the Morris.

The Morris back then also wasn't played much.

And as soon as I moved the Morris to the study, I started playing it.

In its place, I moved the Ovation to the tatami room.

Then I stopped playing the Ovation.

It's entirely about the place.

It wasn't a guitar problem.

A guitar placed in the tatami room has a high probability, in the KAZUKIN household, of becoming an objet.

This is already fairly strong statistical data.

The current Ovation also looks strangely picture-perfect in the corner of the tatami room.

Too picture-perfect.

It's more interior decor than an instrument.

Ovation, sorry about that

Of course, I haven't come to dislike the Ovation.

If anything, I love it.

The unique look is good.

The sound is good.

Precisely because of that, seeing it standing quietly in the tatami room makes me feel a little sorry.

“You haven't been played at all lately, have you?”

The one who created the cause is entirely me.

In the end, for KAZUKIN the greatest trick to keep doing something may be neither strong will nor grit.

Keep it within reach.

That may be all.

Guitar, books, study materials.

If they're not within reach, I don't touch them.

Even a few meters away is far.

This is the self-analysis I've arrived at after being KAZUKIN for so many years.

And today again, in the tatami room, the Ovation sits enthroned as a very cool objet.

...Maybe I should put it back in the study. Sorry, Ovation.
