I still use, almost every day, a bag from a model discontinued many years ago. Plenty of similar new ones have come out, yet for some reason I can't bring myself to switch from this one. This time I tried to sort out my reasons.
Even scratches and stains become part of “my bag”
The scuffed corners and the changed color of the handles bothered me when I first bought it, but now those marks look like a personal expression. I know that even if I bought the same model new, I could never get this character, which makes it even harder to part with.
Why it fits my hand better than newer models
Over years of use, the leather has bent to fit my body, and even how I pack it and carry it has adapted to me. New models are attractive in looks and specs, but I think this “fits-my-body” feeling is something you only get with time.
- Dust it off with a dry cloth once a month
- Apply a thin layer of leather cream at each change of season
- If it gets wet, dry it naturally in the shade

古いモデルなんだけどね・・
Summary
I understand the joy of buying a new bag, but there is definitely a goodness that only a well-used bag can have. Until this bag breaks completely, I'll probably keep repairing and using it.
